Christ the King of the Universe
Mt 25.31-461. Mt takes the image of the Son of Man from Dan 7,13-14 and shows him as King and Judge of all mankind at the time of Judgment. The judgment will be for all peoples of all times, all those for whom the disciples of Jesus were sent (Mt 28,19, 24,14, Mk 16,15).The judgment, according to this text, is characterized by its universality and will have as its criterion the practice of justice. As King, resurrected, Jesus will separate men from other men, and, with total clarity, will make each one have full possibility of seeing their most authentic identity. That is, to man will be given the most profound clarity of the identity that he possesses and the meaning of all his actions.2. In addition, humanity will be placed before the mystery of charity, in a very human sense, in which each one should have been responsible for the other his or her neighbor, taking into account their need and their poverty. In this case, blessed are all those who, through a life turned to love, knew how to put themselves at the disposal of others as a true gift, using the gifts they had for the benefit of others. Blessed are all those who have done good to the hungry, to the thirsty, to those who were naked, imprisoned, hospitalized, and foreigners. In short: all the suffering, rejected, abandoned, all those who live in the world without voice and without time and who need care, help, protection and attention. Blessed are all those who have made their lives concrete experiences of mercy and solidarity, unity and fraternity.3. This human concern has its foundation in Christ. The action is Christological. It is always for the sake of Christ, moved by his love and identification with the poor, that the disciple must act. It is Christ who is the universal judge, but also the criterion of judgment, since He is the One by which man has access to his own identity and sense of life. Not to move for Christ or for the practice of charity means to embrace death, the curse and, therefore, the defeat of oneself. To be just, that is, to be treated as "sheep," means to look at the judge on the throne of the cross and realize that it is not the charm for the golden crown, palaces, and sumptuous robes that indicate the condition of the true King, but His eternal love acting in our favor. On the cross, the so-called "good thief" could recognize the Shepherd-King, saw beyond appearances who truly made himself a gift. King Savior has a crown of thorns, he is naked, his throne is a cross, his allies are two bandits, his sycophants are the scoffers, his victory being in his total surrender, his pain, his betrayal, his vigor, Father's will, his joy, to be all to the Father and all to the salvation of a treacherous humanity.
