E esta anciã hebréia, vendo estes milagres resplandecentes, rendia graças a Deus, dizendo: "Eu te rendo graças, ó Deus, Deus de Israel, porque os meus olhos viram a natividade do Salvador do mundo".

O velho Simeão viu o menino Jesus resplandecente de claridade como um facho de luz, quando a Virgem Maria, cheia de alegrias, entrou com ele em seus braços. Simeão, pois, aproximando-se rapidamente de Maria e estendendo suas mãos para ela, disse ao Senhor Jesus: II Agora, Senhor, teu servo pode retirar-se em paz, segundo tua promessa, pois meus olhos viram tua misericórdia e o que preparaste para a salvação que todas as nações; luz de todos os povos e a glória de teu povo de Israel". A profetisa Ana também estava presente, e ela rendia graças a Deus, e celebrava a felicidade de Maria.
E eis o que aconteceu enquanto o Senhor vinha ao mundo em Belém, cidade da Judéia, no tempo do rei Herodes: magos vieram de países do Oriente a Jerusalém, tal como havia predito Zoroastro, e traziam com eles presentes, ouro, incenso e mirra, e adoraram a criança, e renderam-lhe homenagem com seus presentes. Então Maria pegou uma das faixas nas quais a criança estava envolvida e deu-a aos magos que receberam-na como uma dádiva de valor inestimável. E nesta mesma hora, apareceu-lhes um anjo sob a forma de uma estrela que já lhes havia servido de guia, e eles partiram, seguindo sua luz, até que estivessem de volta a sua pátria.
Os reis e os príncipes apressaram-se em se reunir em torno dos magos, perguntando-lhes o que haviam visto e o que haviam feito, como haviam ido e como haviam voltado, e que companheiros eles haviam tido então durante a viagem. Os magos mostraram-lhes a faixa que Maria lhes havia dado; em seguida, eles celebraram uma festa, acenderam o fogo segundo seus costumes, e adoraram a faixa, e a jogaram nas chamas, e as chamas envolveram-na. Ao apagar-se o fogo, eles retiraram o pano e viram que as chamas não haviam deixado sobre ele nenhum vestígio. Eles se puseram então a beijá-lo e a colocá-lo sobre suas cabeças e sobre seus olhos, dizendo: "Eis certamente a verdade! Qual é pois o preço deste objeto que o fogo não pode nem consumir nem danificar?" E pegando-o, depositaram-no com grande veneração entre seus tesouros.
