A branch will sprout from the root of Jesse; The glory of the Lord will fill the entire earth, and every creature will see the salvation of God (Is 11:1; 40:5; Lk 3:6).

Antiphon “O”: O Key of David, scepter of the house of Israel, which you open and no one closes, which you close and no one opens: come quickly and free the man prisoner, who sits in darkness and in the shadow of death.

Whoever holds the KEY (OF DAVID) has all the rights over the place where the doors open and close, letting people pass or not. The key gives power to whoever possesses it. Jesus claims to have received this power from the Father; His power is at the service of life.

First Reading: Isaiah 7:10-14

Reflection:

The angel appears to Mary and invites her to joy. Faced with the unexpected, the young girl is scared and wonders the meaning of such a surprise. God's messenger reassures her and announces good news from God: she is going to be a mother. As she is young and has not yet married, the angel encourages her by telling her that the Holy Spirit will act. The same Spirit that hovered over the waters at the beginning of creation will come upon Mary to bring God's plans to fruition. The fulfillment of divine promises is the work of God, who wanted to count on Mary's collaboration so that her Son could come into the world. Following the example of Mary, let us always open ourselves to the will of the Lord.

Antífona “Ó”: Ó Chave de Davi, cetro da casa de Israel, que abris e ninguém fecha, que fechais e ninguém abre: vinde logo e libertai o homem prisioneiro, que nas trevas e na sombra da morte está sentado.

Quem detém a CHAVE (DE DAVI) tem todos os direitos sobre o lugar onde as portas se abrem e se fecham, deixando passar ou não as pessoas. A chave dá o poder àquele que a possui. Jesus afirma ter recebido esse poder do Pai; seu poder está a serviço da vida.

Primeira Leitura: Isaías 7,10-14

Proclamação do santo Evangelho segundo Lucas – 26No sexto mês, o anjo Gabriel foi enviado por Deus a uma cidade da Galileia, chamada Nazaré, 27a uma virgem, prometida em casamento a um homem chamado José. Ele era descendente de Davi e o nome da virgem era Maria. 28O anjo entrou onde ela estava e disse: “Alegra-te, cheia de graça, o Senhor está contigo!” 29Maria ficou perturbada com essas palavras e começou a pensar qual seria o significado da saudação. 30O anjo, então, disse-lhe: “Não tenhas medo, Maria, porque encontraste graça diante de Deus. 31Eis que conceberás e darás à luz um filho, a quem porás o nome de Jesus. 32Ele será grande, será chamado Filho do Altíssimo, e o Senhor Deus lhe dará o trono de seu pai Davi. 33Ele reinará para sempre sobre os descendentes de Jacó, e o seu reino não terá fim”. 34Maria perguntou ao anjo: “Como acontecerá isso se eu não conheço homem algum?” 35O anjo respondeu: “O Espírito virá sobre ti, e o poder do Altíssimo te cobrirá com sua sombra. Por isso, o menino que vai nascer será chamado santo, Filho de Deus. 36Também Isabel, tua parenta, concebeu um filho na velhice. Este já é o sexto mês daquela que era considerada estéril, 37porque para Deus nada é impossível”. 38Maria, então, disse: “Eis aqui a serva do Senhor; faça-se em mim segundo a tua palavra!” E o anjo retirou-se. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

O anjo aparece a Maria e a convida à alegria. Diante do inesperado, a jovem moça se assusta e se pergunta o significado de tal surpresa. O mensageiro de Deus a tranquiliza e lhe anuncia uma boa notícia que vem da parte de Deus: ela vai ser mãe. Como ela é jovem e ainda nem casou, o anjo a anima dizendo-lhe que o Espírito Santo agirá. O mesmo Espírito que pairava sobre as águas no início da criação virá sobre Maria para concretizar os planos de Deus. A realização das promessas divinas é obra de Deus, o qual quis contar com a colaboração de Maria para que seu Filho viesse ao mundo. A exemplo de Maria, abramo-nos sempre à vontade do Senhor.
