THE SON OF GOD WANTS US TO SAVE, THAT'S THE GOOD NEW

THE SON OF GOD WANTS US TO SAVE, THAT'S THE GOOD NEW
Jesus presents himself as the new and true husband of humanity. He is the only one capable of bringing new and unsurpassed wine to all. Wine is a symbol of love (Ct 1,2) and its abundance is associated with the coming of the Messiah. In the context of Cana, marriage connotes the relationship between God and His people (The 2,16-25, Is 1,21-23, 49,14-26 among others), and which had been forgotten by many, so that the "Mother of the Lord" will say: "They have no wine" (John 2: 3). That is to say, they no longer had the joy of the children of God, the savoring of the true life, the awareness of being authentic gifts of God and, therefore, of belonging to Him by conviction.
2. Surely many things were fixed in the life of that people: they lost the taste by the Law of God and no longer obeyed to the prophetic teachings. Other things have settled into their lives, such as vices, desire for power and domination, lucrative interests, self-attachments, vanities, among other things. In fact, they no longer had wine, for they were drunk with prostitution, adultery, corruption, robbery, deceit, and idolatry. There was no life in the experience of the first Covenant. The relationship with God was adulterated.
3. In Cana there is the possibility of restoring the life of this people with God through the encounter with Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom of the New and Eternal Covenant. A curious fact is that nothing is said about the bride. Even she appears in the narration. It is possible that such an absence may be purposive, so that the reader understands that the bride is one who will appear with the adhesion to Jesus Christ through faith and baptism. In this case, the bride will identify with the community of followers, those who will make Jesus the absolute reason for their lives. Of course, it will be the Church, the new Zion, Body of Christ and Temple of the Holy Spirit.
4. Another important detail is that the episode of Cana occurs on the "sixth day" of the first symbolic week of the Gospel of John. This means association with Gn 1:26, for on the sixth day mankind arose. This reference means, therefore, the emergence of a new humanity, truly Christ-centered, inserted into Him, made the bride of Jesus, "the New and definitive Bridegroom." However, the hour of this "new wine" will come only at the time of the cross, because it will be the hour of the maximum manifestation of the love of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; the hour of merciful par excellence; hour of the total surrender of the Son of God; but also the hour of the judgment of humanity, which perceives its misery, its contempt, and for that reason its inhumanity. The cross will be the definitive hour, preparer of the new humanity, who will act in the power of the Holy Spirit, who will grant to the Church the diversity of gifts, ministries and activities (1 Cor 12: 4-6), as well as the word of wisdom , the word of science, faith, the gift of healing, the power to work miracles, prophecy, the discernment of spirits, the gift of speaking strange tongues, and also the gift of tongues. The diversity of gifts given to the most diverse people, each one being responsible for the application of the gift received in view of the common good, that is, of the whole Church (cf. 1Cor 12,7-11). It is in the same Holy Spirit that the New and Eternal Covenant is given; that the deep intimacy between Christ and his Church takes place; and the reality of the connection between Christ Head and Body Church, forming the new people of God.
5. As for the WOMAN, who, above all, is Mary who is related to the hour of Jesus, symbolizes also the servants and Israel, who passes everything to Jesus; who throws himself to Him and HIM absolutely. But the room-master, who does not recognize the newness coming from Jesus, only observes that fact as if it were something of the groom himself. In doing so, he does not recognize the NEW, but continues to distance himself from the TRUE HOLINESS, as those who still prefer to close their eyes before the Messiah present there to follow, blindly, the first Covenant. When it comes to water and wine, both can also mean the Word of God that came to wash and purify mankind and also make it new and ready for the wedding.
