Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke – 5In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there lived a priest named Zechariah, from the group of Abia. His wife was a descendant of Aaron and was called Isabel. 6Both were righteous before God and faithfully obeyed all the commandments and orders of the Lord. 7They had no children, because Elizabeth was sterile, and they were both old. 8On one occasion, Zechariah was performing priestly duties in the temple, as it was his group's turn. 9According to the custom of the priests, he was chosen by lot to enter the sanctuary and offer incense. 10The whole assembly of people was outside praying, while incense was being offered.

11Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12When Zechariah saw him, he was troubled and fear took hold of him. 13But the angel said, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will have a son, and you will name him John. 14You will be joyful and happy, and many people will rejoice at the birth of the boy, 15because he will be great before the Lord. He will not drink wine or fermented drink, and from the womb he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. 16He will bring many of the people of Israel back to the Lord their God. 17And he will walk before them, with the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the rebellious to the wisdom of the righteous, preparing a people willing for the Lord.” 18Then Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I’m old and my wife is old.” 19The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I am always in the presence of God and I was sent to give you this good news. 20Behold, you will be mute and will not be able to speak until the day these things happen, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at the right time.”

21The people were waiting for Zechariah and were amazed at his delay in the sanctuary. 22When he left, he could not speak to them. And they understood that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. Zechariah spoke with signs and remained silent. 23After his days of service in the sanctuary ended, Zechariah returned home. 24Some time later, his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and hid for five months. 25She said, “This is what the Lord did for me in the days when he deigned to rescue me from public humiliation!”

Primeira Leitura: Juízes 13,2-7.24-25

Leitura do livro dos Juízes – Naqueles dias, 2havia um homem de Saraá, da tribo de Dã, chamado Manué, cuja mulher era estéril. 3O anjo do Senhor apareceu à mulher e disse-lhe: “Tu és estéril e não tiveste filhos, mas conceberás e darás à luz um filho. 4Toma cuidado de não beberes vinho nem licor, de não comeres coisa alguma impura, 5pois conceberás e darás à luz um filho. Sua cabeça não será tocada por navalha, porque ele será consagrado ao Senhor desde o ventre materno e começará a libertar Israel das mãos dos filisteus”. 6A mulher foi dizer ao seu marido: “Veio visitar-me um homem de Deus cujo aspecto era terrível como o de um anjo do Senhor. Não lhe perguntei de onde vinha nem ele me revelou o seu nome. 7Ele disse-me: ‘Conceberás e darás à luz um filho. De hoje em diante, toma cuidado para não beberes vinho nem licor e não comeres nada de impuro, pois o menino será consagrado a Deus desde o ventre materno até o dia da sua morte’”. 24Ela deu à luz um filho e deu-lhe o nome de Sansão. O menino cresceu e o Senhor o abençoou. 25O espírito do Senhor começou a agir nele no campo de Dã. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Lucas – 5Nos dias de Herodes, rei da Judeia, vivia um sacerdote chamado Zacarias, do grupo de Abia. Sua esposa era descendente de Aarão e chamava-se Isabel. 6Ambos eram justos diante de Deus e obedeciam fielmente a todos os mandamentos e ordens do Senhor. 7Não tinham filhos, porque Isabel era estéril, e os dois já eram de idade avançada. 8Em certa ocasião, Zacarias estava exercendo as funções sacerdotais no templo, pois era a vez do seu grupo. 9Conforme o costume dos sacerdotes, ele foi sorteado para entrar no santuário e fazer a oferta do incenso. 10Toda a assembleia do povo estava do lado de fora, rezando, enquanto o incenso estava sendo oferecido.

11Então, apareceu-lhe o anjo do Senhor, de pé, à direita do altar do incenso. 12Ao vê-lo, Zacarias ficou perturbado e o temor apoderou-se dele. 13Mas o anjo disse: “Não tenhas medo, Zacarias, porque Deus ouviu tua súplica. Tua esposa, Isabel, vai ter um filho, e tu lhe darás o nome de João. 14Tu ficarás alegre e feliz, e muita gente se alegrará com o nascimento do menino, 15porque ele vai ser grande diante do Senhor. Não beberá vinho nem bebida fermentada e, desde o ventre materno, ficará repleto do Espírito Santo. 16Ele reconduzirá muitos do povo de Israel ao Senhor seu Deus. 17E há de caminhar à frente deles, com o espírito e o poder de Elias, a fim de converter os corações dos pais aos filhos e os rebeldes à sabedoria dos justos, preparando para o Senhor um povo bem-disposto”. 18Então Zacarias perguntou ao anjo: “Como terei certeza disso? Sou velho e minha mulher é de idade avançada”. 19O anjo respondeu-lhe: “Eu sou Gabriel. Estou sempre na presença de Deus e fui enviado para dar-te esta boa notícia. 20Eis que ficarás mudo e não poderás falar até o dia em que essas coisas acontecerem, porque tu não acreditaste nas minhas palavras, que hão de se cumprir no tempo certo”.

21O povo estava esperando Zacarias e admirava-se com a sua demora no santuário. 22Quando saiu, não podia falar-lhes. E compreenderam que ele tinha tido uma visão no santuário. Zacarias falava com sinais e continuava mudo. 23Depois que terminou seus dias de serviço no santuário, Zacarias voltou para casa. 24Algum tempo depois, sua esposa Isabel ficou grávida e escondeu-se durante cinco meses. 25Ela dizia: “Eis o que o Senhor fez por mim, nos dias em que ele se dignou tirar-me da humilhação pública!”
