Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name be glory.

Responsorial Psalm: 113B(115)

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name be glory.

1. Not to us, O Lord, not to us, † to your name, however, be the glory, / for you are all love and truth! / Why should the pagans say: / “Where is your God, where is he?” – R.

2. Our God is in the heavens, / he does everything he wants. / The pagan gods are gold and silver, / they are all human works. – R.

3. Blessed are you from the Lord, / from the Lord who created heaven and earth! / The heavens are the Lord's heavens, / but the earth he gave to men. – R.

Gospel: John 14,21-26

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.

The Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, / will remind you of everything I have said, hallelujah! (John 14:26) – R.

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John – At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: 21 “Whoever has accepted my commandments and observes them, he loves me. Now whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.” 22Judas – not Iscariot – said to him: “Lord, how can it be explained that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world?” 23Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come and make our home with him. 24Whoever does not love me does not keep my word. And the word that you hear is not mine, but that of the Father who sent me. 25This is what I told you while I was with you. 26But the Defender, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of everything I have told you.” – Word of salvation.

Reflection:

Only those who accept and fulfill his commandments, which are summarized in the following, love Jesus: “As I have loved you, so that you love one another” (John 13:34). By loving others, Christians make their love for Jesus concrete. Therefore, true love is not only interior, but visible, translated into concrete actions. When we put ourselves in this dynamic of love, the person expands their range of relationships: they are loved by Jesus and the Father, who make their home in them. This network of love is already the presence of the Holy Spirit, promised by Jesus (cf. Jn 7,39) and sent by the Father, in such a way that the Church and each believer become a “temple of the Holy Spirit” (cf. Eph 2, 19-22; 1Cor 6,19). The Holy Spirit comes with a defined mission: to teach all things and remember everything that Jesus communicated.

First Reading: Acts 14:5-18

Reading from the Acts of the Apostles – In those days, in Iconium, 5 pagans and Jews, led by their leaders, were willing to outrage and stone Paul and Barnabas. 6When they heard about this, Paul and Barnabas fled and went to Lystra and Derbe, cities in Lycaonia, and their surroundings. 7Then they began to preach the Gospel. 8In Lystra there was a man paralyzed in his legs, who was lame from birth and had never been able to walk. 9He listened to Paul's speech. And he, looking at him and seeing that he had faith to be healed, 10said in a loud voice: “Stand upright on your feet.” The man jumped up and started walking. 11Seeing what Paul had just done, the crowd exclaimed in Lycaonic dialect, “The gods have come down among us in the form of people!” 12They called Barnabas Jupiter and Paul Mercury, because it was Paul who spoke. 13The priests of Jupiter, whose temple was opposite the city, brought bulls adorned with garlands to the door and wanted to offer sacrifices with the crowd. 14When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and went into the crowd, shouting, 15“Men, what are you doing? We are also mortal men like you and we are announcing to you that you need to leave these useless idols to convert to the living God, who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and everything in them. 16In past generations, God allowed all nations to follow their own path. 17However, he did not fail to testify about himself through his benefits, sending rain and harvests from heaven, giving food and making your hearts glad.” 18And by saying this, with great difficulty, they managed to get the crowd to give up offering them a sacrifice. - Word of the Lord.
