The first thing that comes to mind in this text is the indefinite pronoun “someone.” It does not directly say who is seeking their share of the inheritance, because it indicates anyone who is in the same situation. In the case of the rich man in the parable, he is someone who is self-absorbed, prudent about himself, but inhumane when it comes to sharing his possessions. This rich man, by gathering everything he had, preparing for his future, accumulating so many things, shows himself to be a man without a family or a social life, enclosed in the bubble of his selfishness; he represents everything that a disciple of Christ should not be. When he dies, his possessions will be used for discord, for others who will fight with the weapon of greed. At the end of his life, even in the bankrupt mentality of the world, everyone will say that it was all nothing but vanity (cf. Ecclesiastes 2:21). He worked perhaps thinking of leaving an inheritance, but he did not worry about forming men and women capable of God, of love, fraternity, and solidarity. The result cannot be otherwise: where the game of self-interest and greed prevail, there is also discord, war and death. Those who build everything for themselves, disregarding those in need, will become eternally hungry for the essential, but will not be satisfied. It was a life devoted only to vanity.

2. Jesus does not get involved in issues that should be resolved by magistrates. His greatest concern goes beyond this point, going to the root of the problem: greed, through which thousands of people destroy their own lives and the lives of others in their families. Greed is an ever-modern word, ever present in the lives of those who have not yet been able to truly encounter Christ. It is a word that denotes an insatiable hunger for worldly goods, for the desire to have everything and always more. A disciple of Christ must combat it with all his strength. In fact, a disciple must put to death everything that belongs to the earth: immorality, impurity, passion, evil desires and COVETOUSNESS, which is IDOLATRY (cf. Col 3:5). 3. “A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions”. We were not created to live in this world. Our reality, even as a human one, goes beyond the limits of time. Once baptized, we were “raised with Christ” (cf. Col 3:1). Therefore, we must strive to reach the things that are above, we must aspire to heavenly things (cf. Col 3:1-3), we must seek, without longing for the past, to live in communion with God through Jesus Christ. God created us for Himself, to live HIS life, through Jesus Christ, who took us on, gave us His life and became the food of eternal life for us. We were created for God Himself, to share in His nature, as children in the SON. We have received the Holy Spirit, who has inserted us into the Body of Christ, who has made us participants in God, children in the Son, and who continually configures us to Jesus through the sacraments. 4. As disciples, we must belong entirely to God; our treasure is Christ himself; our future is God himself; and our concern is to always be focused on God and humanity, sharing everything we have for the good of all. The money in our hands, if we are truly disciples, is applied to justice. In this condition, we must be rich in God, living in love, truth, peace, justice and solidarity, fraternity, unity; we must have service as our greatest manifestation of interest, seeing in the other, who is converted, our greatest investment. This is the key word: investing in ourselves, according to God, and in the other, so that we can all participate worthily in the Kingdom of God.
