We need to look at ourselves carefully, taking a journey into our interior in the light of Christ. This means first encountering the eternal Word of the Father. The Word of the Father enables us to know God, ourselves, others and the world. Enlightened by Christ, we can walk safely in broad daylight.

2. Only Jesus Christ is the true Light into which we have been placed. That is why he said in Mt 5:14: "You are the light of the world". In Christ, we too have become light. Baptism has given us the grace of participation in the life of God and in what is proper to Jesus. He is the Light, we are participants in this Light; He is the Truth, we become participants in this truth; He is the Son, we too have become children through HIM; He is the Word, we too have been made participants in this Word. In short, by living like Jesus Christ, we can truly be lights for the world. 3. Without this light, it is impossible to see our own great defects, much less the specks of our brothers’ defects. In fact, the light makes us see our own being, our existence, and our actions first. Before anything else, we need to see our own lives in comparison with God’s will and Jesus’ example. The foundation for understanding ourselves is the Word of God, right there in the center, within reach of our eyes and our hearts. 4. Our blindness is our pride, our self-sufficiency, our life of sin, our petty life without the Spirit of God. Sometimes we think we can do everything and that we are many things; we think too highly of ourselves. In truth, we are important because we are God’s, His image and likeness, His children, but we are also flawed, limited, stained by sin, and, for that very reason, disobedient. Many times we do not embrace God’s will, His plan of salvation. We just follow our interests, our plans, and our illusions. God becomes as if He were something or someone we need at times. This is terrible! It is totally inhumane! The damage to those who abandon self-denial in order to live according to God is enormous, because they simply abandon the day, despise the light and become involved with darkness, with the inhuman reality of sin, vices in general, among other things. An invitation for today: abandon yourself to the Holy Spirit, so that, through Jesus Christ, your life may be a place of encounter with the Father and with your brothers and sisters. By doing so, instead of being a blind guide, you will be an instrument of light for those who need to see the Truth.
