The Lord speaks of peace to his people and to his friends and to all who turn to him (Ps 84:9).

First Reading: Daniel 1,1-6.8-20

Second day – Lord, give me humility and the true gift of serving.

“Jesus, knowing that the Father had given everything into His hands and that He had come from God and was returning to God, He got up from the table, laid down His clothes, and, taking a towel, He girded Himself with it.

Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet and dry them… ‘Do you know what I have done to you?’…

If I, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you should also wash one another's feet. I gave you an example so that, as I did to you, you should do so too” (John 13, 3-5.12c.14-15).

Jesus, You know that I have little desire to serve, but I greatly desire to be served.

I do not want to be like that anymore! With Your humble Hands, tear away all the pride that still prevents me from “washing the feet of others”, especially those closest to me. Amen.

Repeat the following ejaculation many times on this 2nd day:

“Jesus, by the power of Your Redeeming Blood, I plead for humility and the gift of serving.”

Gospel: Luke 21,1-4

Watch, says Jesus, watch, / for on the day you do not expect, / your Lord will come (Mt 24,42.44). – R.

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke – At that time, 1Jesus looked up and saw rich people depositing offerings in the temple treasury. 2He also saw a poor widow who deposited two small coins. 3At this he said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow gave more than anyone else. 4For they all deposited what they had left as an offering to God. But the widow, in her poverty, offered everything she had to live on.” – Word of salvation.

Reflection:

The rich deposit coins in the temple treasury, and a poor widow places two small coins there. The gestures are similar, but an abyss of difference separates the rich and the poor widow. She gives everything she has to live. She donates her own life. The rich, on the other hand, offer their leftovers, without this interfering with their portion of food, nor their clothing, nor their health. And there is still a doubt: would they have generously given that amount? Didn't any of them have a wave of vanity to show up? It comforts us to know that God knows the depths of all his sons and daughters, and nothing goes unnoticed. Only the Lord is able to evaluate the sincerity of our actions. Everything that is done freely for God will be in good hands.

Segundo dia – Senhor, dai-me humildade e o verdadeiro dom de servir.

“Sabendo, Jesus, que o Pai tudo Lhe dera nas Mãos e que saíra de Deus e para Deus voltava, levantou-Se da mesa, depôs as Suas vestes, e, pegando uma toalha, cingiu-Se com ela.

Em seguida, deitou água numa bacia e começou a lavar os pés de Seus discípulos e a enxugá-los… ‘Sabeis o que vos fiz?’ …

Se Eu, vosso Senhor e Mestre, vos lavei os pés, também vós deveis lavar os pés uns dos outros. Dei-Vos o exemplo para que, como Eu vos fiz, assim façais também vós” (Jo 13, 3-5.12c.14-15).

Jesus, Tu sabes que pouco me disponho a servir, mas muito desejo que me sirvam.

Não quero mais ser assim! Com Tuas Mãos humildes, arranca todo o orgulho que ainda me impede de “lavar os pés dos outros”, especialmente daqueles mais próximos de mim. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 2º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico a humildade e o dom de servir.”

Evangelho: Lucas 21,1-4

Vigiai, diz Jesus, vigiai, / pois, no dia em que não esperais, / o vosso Senhor há de vir (Mt 24,42.44). – R.

Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Lucas – Naquele tempo, 1Jesus ergueu os olhos e viu pessoas ricas depositando ofertas no tesouro do templo. 2Viu também uma pobre viúva que depositou duas pequenas moedas. 3Diante disso, ele disse: “Em verdade vos digo que essa pobre viúva ofertou mais do que todos. 4Pois todos eles depositaram, como oferta feita a Deus, aquilo que lhes sobrava. Mas a viúva, na sua pobreza, ofertou tudo quanto tinha para viver”. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

Os ricos depositam moedas no tesouro do templo, e uma viúva pobre aí coloca duas pequenas moedas. Os gestos são semelhantes, mas um abismo de diferença separa os ricos e a viúva pobre. Ela entrega tudo o que tem para viver. Doa a própria vida. Os ricos, ao invés, ofertam suas sobras, sem que isso interfira na sua porção de alimento, nem nas vestes, nem na saúde. E ainda cabe uma dúvida: teriam eles dado generosamente aquela quantia? Não passou pela cabeça de nenhum deles uma onda da vaidade de aparecer? Conforta-nos saber que Deus conhece o íntimo de todos os seus filhos e filhas, e nada lhe passa despercebido. Só o Senhor tem condição de avaliar a sinceridade dos nossos atos. Estará em boas mãos tudo o que for feito gratuitamente para Deus.
