Let us always rejoice in the Lord, for he is faithful and brings us together to celebrate the Sunday of joy. The liturgy invites us to welcome among us the light of the one who makes justice germinate and comes to us at Christmas. In a spirit of prayer, we give thanks to God, who works wonders in favor of the people and anoints us with the mission of proclaiming the Good News to everyone.

Antiphon “O”: O Wisdom, who came from the mouth of the Most High and reaches to the ends of the entire universe and, with strength and gentleness, governs the entire world: oh, come and teach us the path of prudence.

The antiphon O WISDOM is addressed to the Son. It is the word that comes from the mouth of the Father. The word that creates the universe. It presents us with the origin of Jesus Christ. The wisdom of God penetrated the womb of a woman, from which the little one was born, crying like all children.

First Reading: Isaiah 61.1-2.10-11

Reflection:

John the Baptist was a convinced preacher and capable of drawing crowds. He came to bear witness to the light, which is Jesus. This phenomenon caused concern among religious leaders, representatives of the central power: was John perhaps the expected Messiah? The Pharisees sent a group to interview him. To each question from the priests and Levites, John responded by clarifying that he was not the Messiah (Christ); it was “a voice shouting in the desert.” Desert reminds us of the people’s journey towards liberation. John the Baptist is someone who prepares the people for the liberation that must happen through Jesus. John preached: “Make plain the way of the Lord”. It was about opening the heart to welcome the one who, upon arrival, would establish the Kingdom of God.

Alegrai-vos sempre no Senhor! Repito, alegrai-vos! O Senhor está próximo (4,4s).

Alegremo-nos sempre no Senhor, pois ele é fiel e nos reúne para celebrar o domingo da alegria. A liturgia nos convida a acolher entre nós a luz daquele que faz germinar a justiça e nos chega no Natal. Em espírito de oração, damos graças a Deus, que faz maravilhas em favor do povo e nos unge para a missão de proclamar a Boa-nova a todos.

Antífona “Ó”: Ó Sabedoria, que saístes da boca do Altíssimo e atingis até os confins de todo o universo e, com força e suavidade, governais o mundo inteiro: oh, vinde ensinar-nos o caminho da prudência.

A antífona Ó SABEDORIA é dirigida ao Filho. É a palavra saída da boca do Pai. Palavra que cria o universo. Ela nos apresenta a origem de Jesus Cristo. A sabedoria de Deus penetrou no seio de uma mulher, do qual nasceu o pequenino, que chora como todas as crianças.

Proclamação do santo Evangelho segundo João – 6Surgiu um homem enviado por Deus; seu nome era João. 7Ele veio como testemunha para dar testemunho da luz, para que todos chegassem à fé por meio dele. 8Ele não era a luz, mas veio para dar testemunho da luz. 19Este foi o testemunho de João, quando os judeus enviaram de Jerusalém sacerdotes e levitas para perguntar: “Quem és tu?” 20João confessou e não negou. Confessou: “Eu não sou o Messias”. 21Eles perguntaram: “Quem és, então? És tu Elias?” João respondeu: “Não sou”. Eu não mereço desamarrar a correia de suas sandálias”. 28Isso aconteceu em Betânia, além do Jordão, onde João estava batizando. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

João Batista era um pregador convicto e capaz de arrastar multidões. Ele veio para dar testemunho da luz, que é Jesus. Esse fenômeno causou preocupação aos líderes religiosos, representantes do poder central: seria João talvez o Messias esperado? Os fariseus mandaram um grupo para entrevistá-lo. A cada pergunta dos sacerdotes e levitas, João rebatia esclarecendo que ele não era o Messias (Cristo); era “uma voz gritando no deserto”. Deserto faz lembrar a caminhada do povo rumo à libertação. João Batista é alguém que prepara o povo para a libertação que deverá acontecer por meio de Jesus. João pregava: “Aplanem o caminho do Senhor”. Tratava-se de abrir o coração para acolher aquele que, ao chegar, haveria de implantar o Reino de Deus, reino de justiça, fraternidade e paz.
