The Lord gave them the water of wisdom, it became their strength, and they did not waver; will exalt them forever, hallelujah! (Eclo 15.3s)

The Lord gave them the water of wisdom, it became their strength, and they did not waver; will exalt them forever, hallelujah! (Eclo 15.3s)

A sign of hope for all humanity, the resurrection of Jesus shines, illuminating the darkness of human existence. To Mary Magdalene, who was looking for his body, the Resurrected One appears alive and glorious, bringing her consolation and joy. To his disciples gathered to celebrate his Easter, he also manifests himself, leading them to his banquet of love and salvation. First Reading: Acts 2:36-41 Reading from the Acts of the Apostles – On the day of Pentecost, Peter said to the Jews: 36 “May all the people of Israel recognize with complete certainty: God made this Jesus whom you crucified Lord and Christ”. 37When they heard this, their hearts were troubled and they asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brethren, what should we do?” 38Peter replied, “Repent, and let each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise is for you and your children, and for all those who are far off, all those whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40With many other words, Peter gave them testimony and exhorted them, saying: “Save yourselves from these corrupt people!” 41Those who accepted Peter's words received baptism. That day, more or less three thousand people joined them. - Word of the Lord. Responsorial Psalm: 32(33) The goodness of the Lord overflows throughout the earth. 1. Right is the word of the Lord, / and everything he does deserves faith. / God loves law and justice, / his grace overflows throughout the earth. – R. 2. But the Lord rests his gaze on those who fear him / and who trust, hoping in his love, / to free their lives from death / and feed them when it is time of hardship. – R. 3. In the Lord we wait confidently, / because he is our help and protection! / May your grace come upon us, Lord, / in the same way that we hope in you! – R. Gospel: John 20,11-18 Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. This is the day that the Lord has made for us, / let us rejoice and be glad in it! (Ps 117,24) – R. Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John – At that time, 11Mary was outside the tomb, crying. As she cried, she leaned over and looked into the tomb. She 12then saw two angels dressed in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been laid, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13The angels asked, “Woman, why are you crying?” She replied: “They took my Lord and I don’t know where they put him.” 14Having said this, Mary turned back and saw Jesus standing. But she didn't know it was Jesus. 15Jesus asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?” Thinking it was the gardener, Mary said: “Lord, if it was you who took him, tell me where you put him, and I will come and get him.” 16Then Jesus said, “Mary!” She turned and exclaimed, in Hebrew: “Rabuni” (which means Master). 17Jesus said, “Don’t hold me back. I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and say to my brothers: I am ascending to my Father and your Father, my God and your God.” 18Then Mary Magdalene went and announced to her disciples: “I have seen the Lord!” and she told what Jesus had said to her. – Word of salvation. Reflection: The resurrected Jesus reserved a personal meeting for Mary Magdalene. She represents the community that is looking for the Master. She cries for not finding Jesus' body in the tomb; She cries, naturally, for the loss of her friend. She continues to dwell on death, while, free from the bonds and corruption of the tomb, Jesus is alive. When Mary turns her back on the past and looks at the one who calls her by her name, she discovers that she stands before the risen Lord. Carried away by emotion and joy, she tries to hold him. Jesus corrects her: “Do not hold me back.” Henceforth, her relationship with Jesus takes on a new mode. The mission of the community is not to hold Jesus, but to announce him to our brothers and sisters. This is what Mary Magdalene did, thus becoming the first evangelist of the resurrection of Jesus.
