First Reading: Genesis 9,8-15 Guided by the Spirit, let us open our hearts to welcome the Word that reminds us of our commitment to the Gospel of the Kingdom. Reading from the book of Genesis – 8God said to Noah and his sons: 9 “Behold, I will establish my covenant with you and with your descendants, 10 with every living thing that is with you: birds, domestic and wild animals, in short, with all animals of the earth, which came out with you from the ark. 11I establish my covenant with you: never again will any creature be destroyed by the waters of the flood and there will be no more floods to devastate the earth.” 12And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I place between me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13I set my bow in the clouds as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14When I gather the clouds over the earth, my bow will appear in the clouds. 15Then I will remember my covenant with you and with every living creature. Second Reading: 1 Peter 3,18-22 Reading of the first letter of Saint Peter – Dear friends, 18Christ died, once for all, because of sins, the just for the unjust, in order to lead us to God. He suffered death in his human existence, but received new life through the Spirit. 19In the Spirit he also went to preach to the spirits in prison, 20namely, to those who were disobedient in the past, when God was long-suffering, in the days when Noah was building the ark. In this ark, a few people – eight – were saved through water. 21Baptism corresponds to the ark, which is your salvation today. For baptism does not serve to cleanse the body of filth, but is a request to God to obtain a good conscience, by virtue of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 22He ascended into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, dominions and powers submitting to him. - Word of the Lord. Gospel: Mark 1,12-15 Praise and glory to you, Lord, Christ, Word of God. Man does not live on bread alone, / but on every word from the mouth of God (Mt 4,4). – R. Proclamation of the holy Gospel according to Mark – At that time, 12 the Spirit led Jesus into the desert. 13And he remained in the desert for forty days and was there tempted by Satan. He lived among wild animals, and angels served him. 14After John the Baptist was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the Gospel of God and saying: 15“The time has come to an end and the Kingdom of God is at hand. Convert yourselves and believe in the Gospel!” – Word of salvation. Reflection: The desert awakened strong memories for the Hebrews. On the way to the Promised Land, they remained for forty years in the desert, where Moses experienced God as a liberator and received the Commandments, the basis of society based on justice. The number forty indicates totality. It can be said that Jesus was tempted throughout his public life. It is in the desert, the place of encounter with God, that Jesus consolidates his decision to do the Father's will. He must face every temptation of the oppressive power. To strengthen him in this fight, Jesus has the Holy Spirit and the angels (good messengers) in his favor, in contrast to Satan, his rival. After the arrest of the Baptist, Jesus begins his mission in Galilee, far from Jerusalem, the center of political, economic and religious power.

Primeira Leitura: Gênesis 9,8-15

Guiados pelo Espírito, abramos o coração para acolher a Palavra que nos lembra do nosso compromisso batismal com o Evangelho do Reino.

Leitura do livro do Gênesis – 8Disse Deus a Noé e a seus filhos: 9“Eis que vou estabelecer minha aliança convosco e com vossa descendência, 10com todos os seres vivos que estão convosco: aves, animais domésticos e selvagens, enfim, com todos os animais da terra, que saíram convosco da arca. 11Estabeleço convosco a minha aliança: nunca mais nenhuma criatura será exterminada pelas águas do dilúvio e não haverá mais dilúvio para devastar a terra”. 12E Deus disse: “Este é o sinal da aliança que coloco entre mim e vós, e todos os seres vivos que estão convosco, por todas as gerações futuras: 13ponho meu arco nas nuvens como sinal de aliança entre mim e a terra. 14Quando eu reunir as nuvens sobre a terra, aparecerá meu arco nas nuvens. 15Então eu me lembrarei de minha aliança convosco e com todas as espécies de seres vivos. E não tornará mais a haver dilúvio que faça perecer nas suas águas toda criatura”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Verdade e amor são os caminhos do Senhor.

1. Mostrai-me, ó Senhor, vossos caminhos / e fazei-me conhecer a vossa estrada! / Vossa verdade me oriente e me conduza, / porque sois o Deus da minha salvação. – R.

2. Recordai, Senhor meu Deus, vossa ternura / e a vossa compaixão, que são eternas! / De mim lembrai-vos, porque sois misericórdia / e sois bondade sem limites, ó Senhor! – R.

3. O Senhor é piedade e retidão / e reconduz ao bom caminho os pecadores. / Ele dirige os humildes na justiça, / e aos pobres ele ensina o seu caminho. – R.

Segunda Leitura: 1 Pedro 3,18-22

Leitura da primeira carta de São Pedro – Caríssimos, 18Cristo morreu, uma vez por todas, por causa dos pecados, o justo pelos injustos, a fim de nos conduzir a Deus. Sofreu a morte na sua existência humana, mas recebeu nova vida pelo Espírito. 19No Espírito, ele foi também pregar aos espíritos na prisão, 20a saber, aos que foram desobedientes antigamente, quando Deus usava de longanimidade, nos dias em que Noé construía a arca. Nesta arca, umas poucas pessoas – oito – foram salvas por meio da água. 21À arca corresponde o batismo, que hoje é a vossa salvação. Pois o batismo não serve para limpar o corpo da imundície, mas é um pedido a Deus para obter uma boa consciência, em virtude da ressurreição de Jesus Cristo. 22Ele subiu ao céu e está à direita de Deus, submetendo-se a ele anjos, dominações e potestades. – Palavra do Senhor.

Evangelho: Marcos 1,12-15

Louvor e glória a ti, Senhor, Cristo, Palavra de Deus.

O homem não vive somente de pão, / mas de toda palavra da boca de Deus (Mt 4,4). – R.

Proclamação do santo Evangelho segundo Marcos – Naquele tempo, 12o Espírito levou Jesus para o deserto. 13E ele ficou no deserto durante quarenta dias e aí foi tentado por satanás. Vivia entre os animais selvagens, e os anjos o serviam. 14Depois que João Batista foi preso, Jesus foi para a Galileia, pregando o Evangelho de Deus e dizendo: 15“O tempo já se completou e o Reino de Deus está próximo. Convertei-vos e crede no Evangelho!” – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

O deserto despertava fortes lembranças para os hebreus. A caminho da Terra Prometida, eles permaneceram quarenta anos no deserto, onde Moisés teve a experiência de Deus libertador e recebeu os Mandamentos, base da sociedade alicerçada na justiça. O número quarenta indica totalidade. Pode-se dizer que Jesus foi tentado durante toda a sua vida pública. É no deserto, lugar do encontro com Deus, que Jesus consolida sua decisão de fazer a vontade do Pai. Deverá enfrentar toda tentação do poder opressor. Para fortalecê-lo nessa luta, Jesus tem a seu favor o Espírito Santo e os anjos (bons mensageiros), em contraste com satanás, seu rival. Após a prisão do Batista, Jesus inicia sua missão na Galileia, longe de Jerusalém, centro do poder político, econômico e religioso.
