By building tombs to preserve the memory of those who shed their blood because of the sending they received from God, to announce the liberation of God's people, they (the scribes and Pharisees) were indirectly confirming the innocence of the prophets. Furthermore, they manifested their complicity in their deaths. Here is an example of what happens today. It is common to value characters from the past, who suffered at the hands of tyrants, who shed their blood for a just cause. The same can also happen with regard to people from one's own family, who were fantastic, who wanted only good, but who were abandoned and despised because of individual and unreasonable games of interest. Today we mourn the good people of the past, we talk about them with a conscience heavier than a ton of cement. Others speak to appear good-natured, and still others to profit from what has happened, as happens with tourism.

2. The owners of the law. These things are done by those who hold both political and religious power in Israel. The scribes, in particular, controlled knowledge; they were the teachers of the Law. Certainly, being knowledgeable about the Law is very important. Jesus does not want to contradict those who study, who dedicate themselves to knowledge, but he does want to combat those who use what they learn to manipulate people, to be the masters, to have possession and control over others, imposing what is in their own interests. As happens in any area, those who dominate in knowledge want to stay in their position and do not want competitors. It is as if to say: each one dominates as best he can in what is in his interest. These people prevent others from learning the truth and putting it into practice. The result will be contempt for men and women who dedicate themselves to the cause of the Kingdom of God. 3. In the past, the prophets were rejected and killed. At present, through tremendous blindness, they reject Jesus. In this way, the persecution of the prophets reaches the height of rejection. Certainly, the Body of Christ will suffer the same consequences. Jesus is persecuted in his words (as happened during the dictatorship and still today), in his actions and in his own life. The world of individualism and attachment to everything rejects those who are free, who truly love, who live the Law of God, who are not cheap preachers of eternal teachings, but faithful followers in words and actions. Jesus Christ is the Word of God, he is the faithful follower, he is the free, he is detachment in person, he is the hope of salvation, he is the true light, he is the only Master, the True Master. That is why he is so persecuted. Every follower of Christ suffers the same rejections until death. 4. We will overcome. If we are faithful to Christ, we will be victorious. It is enough to do the will of the Father, to be authentic disciples of Love, Truth and Life. Christ must always be our first project in life, our reason for being, our Everything. Certainly, by acting in this way, we too will be persecuted for the fact that we belong to Jesus Christ.
