At the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven, on earth and under the earth, and every tongue proclaim: Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Responsorial Psalm: 93(94)
The Lord does not reject his people.
1. Behold, Lord, they oppress your people / and humiliate your inheritance; / stranger and widow slaughter, / and murder the poor and the orphan! – R.
2. They say: “The Lord does not see us / and the God of Jacob does not perceive!” / Understand, you foolish people; / you fools, when will you see? – R.
3. What did the ear not hear? / Whom the eyes formed will not see? / Whoever educates the nations does not punish? / Who men teach does not know? – R.
4. The Lord does not reject his people / and cannot forget their inheritance: / the sentences will return to judgment; / whoever is upright will walk in justice. – R.
Gospel: Matthew 11,25-27
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.
I thank you, O Father, / Lord of heaven and earth, / for you revealed the mysteries of your Kingdom to the little ones, / hiding them from the doctors! (Mt 11,25) – R.
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew – 25At that time, Jesus began to say: “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you hid these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little ones. 26Yes, Father, because it pleased you. 27Everything has been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” – Word of salvation.
Reflection:
When addressing the Father, Jesus brings together some titles that reveal God's sovereign dominion: “Father”, “Lord of heaven and earth”. “Wise and understanding” are terms applied to members of the religious and political elite, who refused to recognize Jesus as the One Sent by the Father. It is not that God deprived them of this possibility; They are the ones who took a stand against Jesus and his Kingdom. They became so opposed to Jesus that they persecuted him all the time, until he died on the cross. The “little ones”, in turn, are the impoverished, who seek protection, who yearn for justice. These have an open heart to welcome God’s project. Jesus' message is worthy of trust and acceptance, because he receives it directly from the Father, whom he knows like no one else.
