I will speak your law before kings, and I will bear witness without fear. I delight in your commandments, which I love, I love more than anything else (Ps 118:46ff).

In the fortress of Machaerus, east of the Dead Sea, by order of Herod Antipas, John the Baptist was beheaded. He died a martyr for his consistency with the message he preached. The celebration of his martyrdom has ancient origins: in the 5th century, in France; in the 6th century, in Rome. May his courage and strength encourage us to persevere in the practice of justice. First Reading: Jeremiah 1:17-19 A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah – In those days, the word of the Lord came to me: 17“Come, put on your clothes and gird yourself, and stand up and tell them everything I command you to say. Do not be afraid, or I will make you tremble before them. 18For I will make you today a fortified city, an iron pillar, a bronze wall, against the whole world, against the kings of Judah and its princes, against the priests and the people of the land. 19They will make war against you, but they will not prevail, for I am with you to defend you,” says the Lord. – The word of the Lord. The soldier went out and beheaded him in the prison, 28and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, who gave it to her mother. 29When John’s disciples heard about it, they went and took his body and buried it. – Word of salvation. Reflection: John the Baptist, “the greatest among those born of women,” according to Jesus’ eulogy, dies by beheading on Herod’s orders. The episode takes place in the fortress of Machaerus, east of the Dead Sea. The celebration of the martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist has ancient origins (5th century in France; 6th century in Rome). It is linked to the dedication of the church built in Sebaste, Samaria, over the supposed tomb of the precursor of Christ. His martyrdom occurred during a banquet that Herod had offered “to his magnates, to his officials and to the great men of Galilee”. On this occasion, the king indulged the whims of Herodias’ daughter, who asked for John’s head. The daughter was as senseless as the mother was evil and ruthless. The prophet passed away, but his testimony of fidelity to God remained forever. (Daily Gospel 2024)

Woe to you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites"; "Woe to you, blind guides". Three times in this text, out of a total of seven, Jesus condemns the attitudes of the leaders of Israel.

Woe to you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites"; "Woe to you, blind guides". Three times in this text, out of a total of seven, Jesus condemns the attitudes of the leaders of Israel. The expression "Woe to you" indicates a judgment of condemnation on those who teach one thing and live another, someone who appears with one face and acts with another. Counter-testimony is a way of impeding the conquest of the kingdom of God, it is something that destroys oneself and others. The hypocrite seeks to change people not for God, but for himself, for personal satisfaction, using them in things hostile to salvation. Hypocrisy is blindness, it is a "blackout" in faith, truth and love; it is a kind of corrosive that reaches the core of the personality, making the person indifferent to the essential. The hypocrite's eyes see only the accidental: the gold and not the Temple, the offering and not the Altar. The hypocrite, in truth, seeks the "wealth" of the world: gold, fame, name, status, applause, among other things. The end, for this type of people, if they do not convert, is total separation from God.

All this applies not only to the hypocritical Pharisees, but to the entire Christian community. Every baptized person is called to a true encounter with Jesus Christ, which leads to an absolutely new life. For a disciple of Jesus, the essential thing is a life according to truth, love and true faith, not just any kind of faith or even creed, but faith in the God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, faith as ADHESION OF THE WHOLE PERSON TO GOD AND HIS WORK.

It is interesting to note, especially in view of the many who claim to believe, that faith is not the formation of individualistic, radical groups, the formation of "fiduciary ghettos", it is not about using the name of Jesus according to ideological interpretations. Those who act in this way create an environment not of life, but of death, not of faith, but of fanaticism. The fanatic does not believe in God, but in himself; he is a manipulator of the truth; he opens the way for terrorism, condemns all those who do not think the way he does, and sends everyone to hell. The creation of sects is already a beginning of fanaticism and, therefore, of imbalance in the expression of faith.

The challenge for Christ's disciples is to make Christ's mission on earth increasingly evident, disregarding everything that is not in line with God's will or with the transformation of the human person. The disciple of Christ is seen where love is planted and truth shines, where there is a balance of faith, where everyone is respected, where the interest in saving is not shown with the mask of fanatical judgment, but with the ability to give one's own life, where no one is sent to hell, on the contrary, death is embraced to save others. The disciple must be Christ present in history, an OASIS of salvation in the desert of life in this world. The opposite would be to travel the entire world, crossing seas and lands, winning over people who, instead of being guided to God, for various personal reasons, are diverted from the path and become worthy of condemnation. How sad this type of leader, this self-evangelizer, who, instead of being a light, is an unbalanced plague and destroyer of dreams and the true future of those who approach him. They are not disciples of Jesus, but his enemies; they have not allied themselves with Christ, but with the Devil through sin. A disciple of Jesus Christ is anyone who has no other interest than doing the will of God; someone who is part of the Body of Christ, aware of his mission as a servant of the Truth, loving his neighbor without fear of death, and fighting for his salvation as a treasure of the Most High.

Oração final para todos os dias da novena

Suplicando o poder das Mãos Ensanguentadas de Jesus

Cura-me, Senhor Jesus.
“Jesus, coloca Tuas Mãos benditas ensanguentadas, chagadas e abertas sobre mim, neste momento.

Sinto-me completamente sem forças para prosseguir carregando as minhas cruzes.

Preciso que a força e o poder de Tuas Mãos, que suportaram a mais profunda dor ao serem pregadas na Cruz, reergam-me e curem-me agora.

Jesus, não peço somente por mim, mas também por todos aqueles os quais mais amo. Nós precisamos desesperadamente de cura física e espiritual através do toque consolador de Tuas Mãos ensanguentadas e infinitamente poderosas.

Eu reconheço, apesar de toda a minha limitação e da infinidade dos meus pecados, que és Deus, Onipotente e Misericordioso para agir e realizar o impossível.

Com fé e total confiança posso dizer: “Mãos ensanguentadas de Jesus, Mãos feridas lá na Cruz! Vem tocar em mim. Vem, Senhor Jesus!”.

Concluir cada dia, rezando um Pai Nosso e um Glória, em agradecimento pelas graças, bênçãos e milagres que serão concedidos pelas Mãos ensanguentadas de Jesus por meio dessa Novena.

Em nome do Pai, do Filho e do Espirito Santo. Amém!

 

 

Primeiro dia – Senhor aumenta a minha fé.

Tranquilizai-vos, não tenhais medo, sou Eu!… E disse a Pedro: ‘Vem’. Pedro saiu da barca e caminhava sobre as águas ao encontro de Jesus.

Mas, redobrando a violência do vento, teve medo e, começou a afundar. Gritou: ‘Senhor, salva-me’.

No mesmo instante, Jesus estendeu-lhe a Mão, segurou-o e disse: ‘Homem de pouca Fé, por que duvidaste?’. O vento cessou.

Então, os que estavam na barca prostraram-se diante d’Ele e disseram: ‘Tu és verdadeiramente o Filho de Deus’” (Mt 14, 27b. 29-32).

Jesus, fortes ondas de desespero têm investido contra mim. Aumenta a minha fé, porque estou com medo de afundar neste mar de angústia e dor.

Como fizeste a Pedro, suplico que me estendas Tua Mão poderosa e, com autoridade de Filho de Deus, ordenes ao mal que se afaste de mim agora e para sempre. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 1º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico que aumentes a minha Fé.”

 

 

Segundo dia – Senhor, dai-me humildade e o verdadeiro dom de servir.

“Sabendo, Jesus, que o Pai tudo Lhe dera nas Mãos e que saíra de Deus e para Deus voltava, levantou-Se da mesa, depôs as Suas vestes, e, pegando uma toalha, cingiu-Se com ela.

Em seguida, deitou água numa bacia e começou a lavar os pés de Seus discípulos e a enxugá-los… ‘Sabeis o que vos fiz?’ …

Se Eu, vosso Senhor e Mestre, vos lavei os pés, também vós deveis lavar os pés uns dos outros. Dei-Vos o exemplo para que, como Eu vos fiz, assim façais também vós” (Jo 13, 3-5.12c.14-15).

Jesus, Tu sabes que pouco me disponho a servir, mas muito desejo que me sirvam.

Não quero mais ser assim! Com Tuas Mãos humildes, arranca todo o orgulho que ainda me impede de “lavar os pés dos outros”, especialmente daqueles mais próximos de mim. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 2º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico a humildade e o dom de servir.”

 

 

Terceiro dia – Senhor, ajuda-me a perdoar verdadeiramente.

“Os escribas e os fariseus trouxeram-Lhe uma mulher que fora apanhada em adultério.

Puseram-na no meio da multidão e disseram a Jesus: ‘Mestre, agora mesmo esta mulher foi apanhada em adutério.

Moisés mandou-nos na Lei que apedrejássemos tais mulheres. ‘Que dizes,Tu, a isso?’ Jesus, porém, Se inclinou para frente e com a Mão escrevia na terra.

Como eles insistissem, ergueu-Se e disse: ‘Quem de vós estiver sem pecado, seja o primeiro a lhe atirar uma pedra’…

Eles foram se retirando um a um, até o último… Jesus ficou sozinho, com a mulher diante d’Ele… Perguntou-lhe: ‘Ninguém te condenou?’.

Respondeu ela: ‘Ninguém, Senhor’. Disse-lhe, então, Jesus: ‘Nem Eu te condeno.

Vai e não tornes a pecar” (Jo 8, 3-5.6b-9.10-11).

Jesus, como a pecadora desse Evangelho, preciso muitíssimo do Teu perdão.

Com Tuas Mãos benditas, toca agora e transforma meu coração – tão duro quanto as pedras das mãos dos fariseus – num coração de carne, que saiba perdoar porque foi perdoado por Ti. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 3º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico o Teu perdão e a graça de aprender a perdoar.”

 

 

Quarto dia – Senhor, purifica o meu coração.

“Apresentaram-lhe, então, crianças para que as tocasse; mas os discípulos repreendiam os que as apresentavam.

Vendo-os, Jesus indignou-Se e disse-Lhes: ‘Deixai vir a Mim os pequeninos e não os impeçais; porque o Reino de Deus é daqueles que se assemelham a eles.

Em verdade vos digo, todo o que não receber o Reino de Deus com a mentalidade de uma criança, nele não entrará’.

Em seguida, Ele abraçou e abençoou as crianças, impondo-lhes Suas Mãos” (Mc 10, 13-16).

Jesus, volta o Teu olhar para a minha infância, quando só havia pureza em mim. Dá-me de novo aquele coração puro.

Contigo, sei que isso é possível! Com Tuas Mãos puríssimas, purifica o meu interior e devolve-me a alegria de fazer deste pobre coração a Tua morada. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 4º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico que purifiques o meu coração.”

 

 

Quinto dia – Senhor, cura-me profunda e totalmente.

“Ao sair de Jericó, uma grande multidão O seguiu. Dois cegos, sentados à beira do caminho, ouvindo dizer que Jesus passava, começaram a gritar:

‘Senhor, Filho de Davi, tem piedade de nós!’. A multidão, porém, os repreendia, para que se calassem.

Mas, eles gritavam ainda mais forte: ‘Senhor, Filho de Davi, tem piedade de nós!’.

Jesus parou, chamou-os e perguntou-lhes: ‘Que queres que Eu vos faça?’.

‘Senhor, que nossos olhos se abram!’. Jesus, cheio de compaixão, tocou-Lhes os olhos com as Mãos.

Instantaneamente recobraram a vista e puseram-se a segui-Lo” (Mt 20, 29-34).

Coloco-me hoje também em Teu Caminho para suplicar: “Jesus, Filho de Davi, tem piedade de mim!”.

Senhor, volve para mim o Teu olhar e vê como o meu corpo, a minha mente e a minha alma necessitam urgentemente de cura.

Impõe sobre mim Tuas Mãos Milagrosas e realiza esta cura profunda e total que tanto espero para poder servi-Lo muito mais e melhor. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 5º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico minha cura profunda e total.”

 

 

Sexto dia – Senhor, dai-me o pão de cada dia.

“Durante a refeição, Jesus tomou em Suas Mãos O Pão, abençoou-O, partiu-O e O deu aos Seus discípulos, dizendo: ‘Tomai e comei, isto é o Meu Corpo’.

Tomou depois o cálice, rendeu graças e O deu, dizendo: ‘Bebei d’Ele todos, porque isto é o Meu Sangue, o Sangue da Nova Aliança, derramado por todos, em remissão dos pecados.” (Mt 26, 50b-52).

Jesus, meu coração transborda de gratidão porque, mesmo sabendo que eu jamais teria merecimento para receber tal graça, Tu Te fazes alimento no altar, oferecendo-Te a mim pelas mãos dos sacerdotes e ministros, extensão de Tuas Mãos generosas.

Dá-me a graça de sempre buscá-Lo com ardor, para que eu não desfaleça no meio da jornada rumo ao Teu encontro. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 6º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico que jamais me falte o Pão da Vida.”

 

 

Sétimo dia – Senhor, ajuda-me a carregar minhas cruzes com amor.

“Chegados ao lugar chamado Calvário, ali O crucificaram, como também os ladrões, um à direita e outro à esquerda…

Era quase à hora sexta e em toda a terra houve trevas até a hora nona. Escureceu-se o sol e o véu do Templo rasgou-se ao meio.

Jesus deu, então, um grande brado e disse: ‘Pai, nas Tuas Mãos, entrego o Meu espírito’” (Lc 23, 44-46).

Jesus, hoje entendi porque abraçaste com tanto amor a Tua Cruz.

É que através dela provavas Teu amor eterno por mim e conquistavas, ao preço de Teu Preciosíssimo Sangue, a minha salvação.

Com a ajuda de Tuas Mãos chagadas, a partir de agora, quero abraçar também com amor a minha cruz, pois entendi que só através dela poderei ser eternamente feliz Contigo. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 7º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico a graça de suportar minha cruz a cada dia.”

 

 

Oitavo dia – Senhor, dá-me a graça de aceitar Maria por Mãe.

“Junto à Cruz de Jesus estava de pé Sua Mãe… Quando Jesus a viu e junto dela o discípulo que amava, disse à Sua Mãe: ‘Mulher, eis aí o teu filho’.

Depois disse ao discípulo: ‘Eis aí a tua Mãe’. E desta hora em diante o discípulo a levou para a sua casa” (Jo 19, 25a.26-27).

Jesus, Tua Mãe, que foi a primeira a ver, segurar e beijar Tuas Mãozinhas em Belém, foi também a primeira a ver, segurar e beijar Tuas Mãos adoradas, atravessadas e ensangüentadas, quando Te depositaram, sem vida, em seu colo.

Aceitar Maria e chamá-la de minha Mãe é desejar que ela esteja comigo, conduzindo-me pela mão, agora e na hora da minha morte, como sempre esteve Contigo. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 8º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico a presença maternal de Maria junto a mim.”

 

 

Nono dia – Senhor, dai-me a graça de ser fiel a ti até o fim.

“Estando trancadas as portas, Jesus pôs-Se no meio deles e disse:

‘A Paz esteja convosco!’ Depois disse a Tomé: ‘Introduz aqui o seu dedo, e vê as Minhas Mãos…

Respondeu-Lhe Tomé: ‘Meu Senhor e meu Deus’” (Jo 20, 26b-28).

Jesus, nas Tuas Mãos ressuscitadas e estendidas em minha direção, deposito a minha vida, e concedo a Ti, meu Senhor e meu Deus, plena liberdade de dispores de mim segundo a Tua Santa Vontade.

Dá-me, apenas, a graça da fidelidade total até o útlimo instante de minha vida e serei eternamente grato a Ti. Amém.

Repita muitas vezes, neste 9º dia, a seguinte jaculatória:

“Jesus, pelo poder do Teu Sangue Redentor, suplico a graça de ser fiel a Ti até o fim.”
