But if I do them, even if you do not want to believe me, believe in my works, so that you may know and recognize that the Father is in me and I in the Father."

Friday, March 22, 2024 5th Week of Lent Readings: Jer 20,10-13 Ps 17(18),2-3a.3bc-4.5-6.7 (R. cf. 7) John 10:31-42 FIRST READING The Lord is by my side like a strong warrior. Reading of the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah 20,10-13 10 I heard the insults of so many men and I saw them spreading fear around: "Denounce him, let us denounce him." All my friends observed my failures: "Maybe he'll make a mistake and we can catch it and get even with him." 11 But the Lord is by my side, as a strong warrior; Therefore, those who persecute me they will fall defeated. Because they were unsuccessful, they will cover themselves with shame. Eternal infamy, which never goes away! 12 O Lord of hosts, which proves the righteous man and you see the feelings of the heart, I pray thee, make me see thy vengeance upon them; for I have declared my cause to you. 13 Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for he saved a poor man's life from the hands of the evil ones. Word of the Lord. Responsorial psalm Ps 17(18),2-3a.3bc-4.5-6.7 (R. cf. 7) A. To the Lord I called in my anguish and he heard my voice. two I love you, O Lord! You are my strength, * 3a my rock, my refuge and Savior! A. B O my God, you are the rock that shelters me, † w my strength and mighty salvation, * You are my shield and protection: in you I hope! 4 I will call upon my Lord: to him be the glory! * and from my persecutors I will be saved! A. 5 Waves of death enveloped me completely, * and the torrents of wickedness terrified me; 6 the bonds of the abyss tied me * and death itself caught me in its nets. A. 7 I called upon the Lord in my anguish * and I lifted up my cry to my God; from his Temple he heard my voice, * and my cry reached his ears. A. Acclamation to the Gospel Cf. John 6,63c.68c R. Glory to Christ, eternal Word of the Father who is love! V. Lord, your words are spirit, they are life; Only you have words of eternal life! GOSPEL They sought to arrest Jesus, but he slipped out of their hands. Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John 10:31-42 In that time, 31 the Jews picked up stones to stone Jesus. 32 And he said to them: "By order of the Father, I have shown you many good works. Which one do you want to stone me for?" 33 The Jews responded: "We do not want to stone you for your good works, but because of blasphemy, because being just a man, you make yourself God!" 34 Jesus said: "Is it not written in your Law: 'I said: you are gods'? 35 Now, no one can nullify the Scripture: if the Law calls gods the people to whom the word of God was addressed, 36 Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy, when I say I am the Son of God, I whom the Father consecrated and sent it to the world? 37 If I do not do the works of my Father, don't believe me. 38 But if I do them, Even if you don't want to believe me, believe in my works, so that you may know and recognize that the Father is in me and I in the Father." 39 Once again they tried to arrest Jesus, but he escaped from their hands. 40 Jesus crossed over to the other side of the Jordan, and he went to the place where, before, John had baptized. And he remained there. 41 Many went to him, and they said: "John performed no sign, but everything he said about this man, and truth". 42 And many there believed in him. Word of Salvation.
