Reading of the Book of Wisdom 2,1a.12-22
1a
The wicked say among themselves,
in their false reasoning:
12
"Let us lie in wait for the righteous,
because his presence bothers us:
he opposes our way of acting,
he rebukes in us transgressions of the law
and he reproves us for our faults against our discipline.
13
He claims to possess the knowledge of God
and is called 'son of God'.
14
It has become a censorship of our thoughts
and just seeing it is unbearable;
15
His life is very different from that of others,
and his ways are immutable.
16
We are compared by him to counterfeit currency
and he flees from our ways as from uncleanness;
he happily proclaims the final fate of the righteous
and he boasts of having God as his father.
17
So let's see if what he says is true,
and let's see what will happen to him.
18
If, in fact, the righteous is 'son of God', God will defend him
and will deliver him out of the hand of his enemies.
19
We will test him with insults and torture,
to see your serenity
and try his patience;
20
we will condemn him to a shameful death,
because, according to his words,
Someone will come to help him."
21
Such are the thoughts of the wicked,
but they are mistaken;
for malice makes them blind,
22
do not know the secrets of God,
do not expect reward for holiness
and they do not value the prize reserved for pure lives.
Word of the Lord.
Responsorial psalm
Ps 33(34),17-18.19-20.2l and 23 (R. 19a)
A. The Lord is close to the troubled heart.
17
The Lord turns his face against the wicked, *
so that the earth can erase its memory.
18
The righteous cry out, and the kind Lord hears *
and from all troubles he frees them. A.
19
He is close to the troubled heart *
and comforts those with a downcast spirit.
20
Many evils befall the righteous, *
but the Lord of them all delivers them. A.
21
Even his bones he keeps and protects, *
and none of them will be broken.
23
But the Lord frees the lives of his servants, *
and he who waits for him will not be punished. A.

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John 7:1-2.10.25-30
In that time,
1
Jesus was traveling through Galilee.
He avoided walking through Judea,
because the Jews sought to kill him.
two
Meanwhile, the Jewish festival of Tendas was approaching.
10
When his brothers had already gone up,
then he also went up to the party,
not publicly but rather, as if secretly.
25
Some inhabitants of Jerusalem then said:
"Isn't this the one they're trying to kill?
26
Behold, he speaks in public and nothing is said to him.
Did the authorities actually recognize
that he is the Messiah?
27
But this one, we know where it's from.
The Christ, when he comes, no one will know where he is from."
28
In a loud voice, Jesus taught in the Temple, saying:
"You know me and where I come from;
I didn't come by myself,
but what he sent me is trustworthy.
You don't know him,
29
but I know him,
because I come from him,
and he was the one who sent me."
30
So they wanted to arrest him,
but no one laid a hand on him,
because his time had not yet come.
Word of Salvation.
