Reading of the Book of Genesis 17,3-9 In those days, 3 Abram fell face down on the ground. 4 And God said to him: "Here is my covenant with you: you will be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 You will no longer be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 I will make your descendants grow infinitely. I will give birth to nations from you, and kings will come out of you. 7 I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants forever; an everlasting covenant, so that I can be your God and the God of your descendants. 8 To you and your descendants I will give the land in which you live as a foreigner, the whole country of Canaan as a possession forever. Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John 8:51-59 01 At that time, Jesus said to the Jews: 51 "Truly, truly, I say to you: if anyone keeps my word, will never see death." 52 Then the Jews said: "Now we know you have a demon. Abraham died and so did the prophets, and you say: 'If anyone keeps my word will never see death'. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, that he died, as also the prophets? Who do you pretend to be?" 54 Jesus replied: "If I glorify myself, my glory is worthless. The one who glorifies me is my Father, the one you say is your God. 55 However, you do not know him. But I know him and if I said I didn't know him, I would be a liar, like you! But I know him and I keep his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced, for seeing my day; he saw it, and was glad." 57 The Jews then said to him: "You're not even fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham!?” 58 Jesus replied: "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham existed, I am". 59 So they picked up stones to stone Jesus, but he hid himself and left the Temple. PRIMEIRA LEITURA

Farei de ti o pai de uma multidão de nações.

Leitura do Livro do Gênesis 17,3-9

Naqueles dias,

Abrão prostrou-se com o rosto por terra.

E Deus lhe disse:
"Eis a minha aliança contigo:
tu serás pai de uma multidão de nações.

5

Já não te chamarás Abrão,
mas o teu nome será Abraão,
porque farei de ti o pai de uma multidão de nações.

6

Farei crescer tua descendência infinitamente.
Farei nascer de ti nações,
e reis sairão de ti.

7

Estabelecerei minha aliança entre mim e ti
e teus descendentes para sempre;
uma aliança eterna,
para que eu seja teu Deus 

e o Deus de teus descendentes.

8

A ti e aos teus descendentes
darei a terra em que vives como estrangeiro,
todo o país de Canaã como propriedade para sempre.
E eu serei o Deus dos teus descendentes".

Deus disse a Abraão:
"Guarda a minha aliança,
tu e a tua descendência para sempre".

Procurai o Senhor Deus e seu poder, *

Descendentes de Abraão, seu servidor, *
e filhos de Jacó, seu escolhido,

ele mesmo, o Senhor, é nosso Deus, *

Ele sempre se recorda da Aliança, *

da Aliança que ele fez com Abraão, *

Vosso pai Abraão exultou, por ver o meu dia.

Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo João 8,51-59

Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos judeus:

"Em verdade, em verdade, eu vos digo:
se alguém guardar a minha palavra,
jamais verá a morte".

52

Disseram então os judeus:
"Agora sabemos que tens um demônio.
Abraão morreu e os profetas também,
e tu dizes:
'Se alguém guardar a minha palavra
jamais verá a morte'.

53

Acaso és maior do que nosso pai Abraão,
que morreu, como também os profetas?
Quem pretendes tu ser?".

54

Jesus respondeu:
"Se me glorifico a mim mesmo,
minha glória não vale nada.
Quem me glorifica é o meu Pai,
aquele que vós dizeis ser o vosso Deus.

55

No entanto, não o conheceis.
Mas eu o conheço
e, se dissesse que não o conheço,
seria um mentiroso, como vós!
Mas eu o conheço e guardo a sua palavra.

56

Vosso pai Abraão exultou,
por ver o meu dia;
ele o viu, e alegrou-se".

57

Os judeus disseram-lhe então:
"Nem sequer cinquenta anos tens ,
e viste Abraão!?"

58

Jesus respondeu:
"Em verdade, em verdade vos digo,
antes que Abraão existisse,
eu sou".

59

Então eles pegaram em pedras para apedrejar Jesus,
mas ele escondeu-se e saiu do Templo.
