All who are thirsty, come and get water, says the Lord; whoever has no money should also come and drink with joy

There are many people who, like the paralytic in today's Gospel, need someone to help them get up and walk, especially in view of their spiritual paralysis. Running to the springs of living water that flow from this liturgy, may we also be healed of everything that prevents us from walking the paths of salvation. First Reading: Ezekiel 47,1-9.12 Reading of Ezekiel's prophecy - In those days, the 1st angel made me go back to the entrance of the temple and behold, water came out of its underground part in the east direction, because the temple was facing east; the water ran on the right side of the temple, south of the altar. 2He took me out through the door that faces north, and made me walk around outside to the door that faces east, where I saw water gushing out on the right side. 3When the man went out towards the east, with a measuring rope in his hand, he measured five hundred meters and made me cross the water: it reached my ankles. 4He measured another five hundred meters and made me cross the water: it reached my knees. 5He measured another five hundred meters and made me cross the water: it came up to my waist. It measured another five hundred meters, and it was a river I couldn't cross. Because the waters had grown so much that they became a river impossible to cross, except by swimming. 6He said to me, “Have you seen, son of man?” Then he made me walk back along the riverbank. 7When I returned, I saw many trees along the bank, on both sides of the river. 8Then he said to me, “These waters flow toward the east, down into the Jordan Valley, and into the salt waters of the sea, and they will become healthy. 9Wherever the river reaches, all the animals that move there will be able to live. There will be plenty of fish, as the waters that bring health flow there; and there will be life wherever the river reaches. 12On the banks of the river, on both sides, all kinds of fruit trees will grow; its leaves will not wither and its fruits will never run out: each month they will bear new fruit, as the waters that bathe the trees come out of the sanctuary. Its fruits will be food and its leaves will be medicine.” - Word of the Lord. Responsorial Psalm: 45(46) With us is the Lord of the universe! / Our refuge is the God of Jacob. 1. The Lord is a refuge and strength for us, / always ready, he has shown himself to be a help in distress; / so we do not fear if the earth shakes, / if the mountains collapse, falling into the seas. – R. 2. The arms of a river come to bring joy / to the city of God, to the home of the Most High. / Who can shake her? God is in your midst! / Well before dawn, he comes to help her. – R. 3. With us is the Lord of the universe! / Our refuge is the God of Jacob! / Come and see, contemplate the wonders of God / and the stupendous work he did in the universe. – R. Gospel: John 5:1-16 Glory to you, Lord Jesus, / firstborn from the dead! Create in me a heart that is pure, / give me the joy of being saved again! (Ps 50,12.14) – R. Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John – 1There was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went to Jerusalem. 2There is in Jerusalem, near the Sheep Gate, a pool with five porches, called Bethesda in Hebrew. 3Many sick people were lying there: blind, lame and paralyzed. 4In fact, an angel came down from time to time and stirred the water in the pool, and the first sick person who entered there, after the water bubbled, was cured of whatever illness he had. 5There was a man there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6Jesus saw the man lying down and, knowing that he had been sick for so long, said to him, “Do you want to get well?” 7The patient replied: “Sir, I have no one to take me to the pool when the water is rough. When I’m arriving, another one gets in front of me.” 8Jesus said, “Get up, pick up your bed and walk.” 9At once the man was healed, picked up his bed and began to walk. Now, that day was a Saturday. 10So the Jews said to the man that he had been healed: “It is the Sabbath! You are not allowed to carry your bed.” 11He answered them, “He who healed me said, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’” 12Then they asked him, “Who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13The man who had been healed did not know who it was, because Jesus had moved away from the crowd that was there. 14Later, Jesus found the man in the temple and said to him, “Look, you are healed. Do not sin again, so that nothing worse happens to you.” 15Then the man went out and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. 16So the Jews began to persecute Jesus because he did such things on the Sabbath. – Word of salvation. Reflection: Jesus, source of living water, heals a man who has always been sick. “Do you want to get well?” – Jesus' question seems to awaken someone who lives in conformity with their situation: Do you really want to regain your health?
